Tropical

Atlantic

I am an Associate Professor in Physical Oceanography, focusing on the large-scale ocean circulation and its role for climate. In particular, I am interested in the behaviour of ocean eddies in all shapes and sizes, and what role they play for the large-scale circulation.

My current research focuses on two main topics:

- how ocean eddies affect the downwelling branch of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation and its response to high-latitude climate change

- the life cycle of eddies in the Caribbean Sea.

In my group, we mainly use idealized models to study ocean processes. Helped by the outcomes of these, we analyze the output of complex models to assess the importance of these processes.
